Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez

Sanchez and Ellenberger at the weigh-ins

Tonight the UFC makes their debut on Fuel TV where in the main event Jake Ellenberger will meet Diego Sanchez. A win for either one of these fighters will — as Dana White likes to say  — put them in the mix for a welterweight title fight. Jake is coming off his first round KO of Jake Shields, and Diego hasn’t fought since the Martin Kampmann fight, which was almost a year ago. I think that the layoff is going to be a problem for Diego, where as Jake has been on a roll, finishing four out of five opponents. As much as Diego would like to take this fight to the ground, I do not see him being able to take Jake down. Also I feel that Jake has a huge advantage on the feet. It is going to be a long night for Diego and I think he is going to get beat up and lose by a second round TKO.

Carlos Condit vs. Nick Diaz

Diaz and Condit at the pre-fight press conference

When it was announced that GSP was injured and his fight against Nick Diaz was cancelled, I was kinda disappointed — for like thirty seconds. Dana White would turn around and announce that Nick Diaz would now be taking on Carlos Condit, in a fight that is much more interesting.

Lately Condit has looked on another level, and really has been living up to the nickname of “The Natural Born Killer.” Condit will have to be on the top of his game to beat Diaz. In his last fight, Diaz came back from losing the first round to B.J. Penn and completely destroyed him in the second and third round. I have never seen B.J. that beat up before.

I think that Diaz should bring this fight to the ground and use his sick BJJ to submit Condit. I am not saying that Condit has better stand up than Diaz — Diaz has some of the best boxing in MMA — it is just that Condit has that one punch KO power to end the fight, which I don’t think Diaz has. Saying all that, I don’t think Diaz is going to try to take it to the ground, and I am making a bold pick in saying that Condit wins by TKO in the third or fourth round.

Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis

Evans and Davis at the pre-fight press conference

I have been looking forward to this fight for a long time. In my opinion Phil Davis might have the only chance to beat the powerhouse that is Jonny “Bones” Jones. First he has to get by his toughest fight to date.

Rashad Evans looked incredible against Tito Ortiz in his last fight at UFC 133. He had no problem blitzing Ortiz with his speed and striking. Even though Evans looked great against Ortiz, it was against an old Ortiz who has only one win since October of 2006. The questions that come with this fight are will Evans be able to stop Davis’ takedowns, and will Davis be able to stand and bang with Evans?

My heart wants me to say that Davis is going to be able to win by decision, but I am going to have to say that Evans is going to be able to control where this fight takes place, and either win by third round TKO or decision.

Thoughts on UFC Undisputed 3 Demo

Silva owning Okami just like UFC 134

Other than being a MMA fan, I love video games. I am hoping to give you guys a full review of the new UFC game when it comes out in February, but for now here are my thoughts of the demo.

You have access to both the UFC mode and the brand new Pride mode. You get to choose between Jon Jones or Anderson Silva in the UFC mode, and Rampage Jackson or Wanderlei Silva in the Pride mode. I would first like to say that Jones is crazy in this game. Every time I get a clinch when playing as him, I can easily toss Anderson to the ground. Jones also can get his opponent into the crucifix position, so he can rain down some vicious elbows. Anderson is also very powerful at light heavyweight, but I am very interested in using him at his natural weight. He seems kinda slow, but I think the game developers did this on purpose to make the lighter weight classes seem faster.

My favorite part of the demo is the Pride mode. I am not really a big fan of soccer kicks and stomps in real life, but they are so much fun to pull off in the game. I don’t really like playing as Rampage due to his lack of powerful kicks, so I have spent most of my time playing as Wandy. He is everything you want in a Pride version of Wandy; powerful knees and great standup. He looks like the old version of Wandy too, not the new one that went under the knife to fix up his face. I also love the attention to detail in the Pride mode — from Rampage’s USA flag trunks to the screaming lady introducing you as you come down the ring. This game is due out on February 14, and hopefully I wll have a full review by the end of February.

My Favorite Kenny Florian Moment

Kenny "Ken Flo" Florian

One of the first times I watched MMA was The Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale, in which the main event was Sam Stout vs. Kenny Florian. I didn’t know that much about the sport at the time, so when my brother asked me to watch some guy from Boston fight I was on the fence. Seeing a guy from your home state fight on a big stage like that caught my interest. After a minute and forty-five seconds Stout was tapping out by a rear naked choke and I was hooked, and after that night I never missed a Kenny Florian fight.

Last week I was doing my normal looking at MMA news sites to find out the latest news when I found out that Kenny might have to retire due to back problems. My heart stopped. Even though this isn’t his final decision, I figured I would tell you my favorite moment in the great career of Kenny Florian.

See my favorite moment after the jump.

Belfort vs. Johnson — If It Happens

Belfort and Johnson at the weigh-ins

For my first post at this site I was given the task to write a prediction for the co-main event at UFC 142 — Anthony “Rumble” Johnson vs. Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort. I had it all planned out; I was going to talk about how excited I was to see Johnson make his debut at 185, the weight class I thought he should be fighting in all along. At the weigh-ins though, we found out that for the third time in his UFC career Johnson missed weight, this time weighing in at 197 lbs. I don’t know how he couldn’t make it to 185 when he used to fight at 170. Vitor thankfully agreed to still fight Johnson, but only if on the day of the fight he weighs less than 205.

Will this have an effect on my prediction? Hit the jump to find out.
