Stefan Struve vs. Dave Herman

Struve and Herman at the weigh ins

In tomorrow’s co-main event we have 6’11” Stefan Struve taking on Dave “Pee Wee” Herman, a recent addition to the UFC heavyweight division. Both of these fighters are lower-tier heavyweights, but a win for either man in such a shallow division could pull them close to UFC gold.

The story for Struve has always been for him to work to use his eighty-four inch reach to his advantage. Junior Dos Santos, Roy Nelson, and Travis Brown were all able to break past Struve’s guard and knock him out. Struve did throw a ridiculous flying knee that allowed Brown to tag him. Struve can take some punishment and still pull out a victory as shown against Paul Buentello and Christaian Morecraft. His long frame — against most — should provide him with an advantage, as he demonstrated with his submission win over Pat Barry.

Herman typically finishes his fights on his feet, and usually in style with knees and ax kicks. Against John-Olav Einemo we saw both men brawling and exchanging shots. Herman also survived on the ground with Einemo who is a black belt in jiu-jitsu. In this fight with Struve he will not want to be hanging around at a distance but instead should look to smother Struve.

I expect most of this fight to take place on the feet unless Struve feels truly threatened. In the past he has shown a love for a good brawl.

I’m picking Herman to take a TKO victory.
